Economic Development Corporation

Formation

Bertram’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) came into being through Proposition 1 on the City of Bertram Official Ballot of November 6, 2001. The Proposition read, “The levy and collection of an additional one-half of one percent (0.5%) sales and use tax within the City of Bertram, when and to the extent permitted by law, with the proceeds thereof to be used and applied to athletic facilities, parks and related public space improvements, tourism and entertainment facilities, public facility improvements, facilities to promote new and expanded business development, transportation and infrastructure improvements related to these projects, and the on-going operation and maintenance of them.” This proposition passed and the tax went into effect on April 1, 2002 with the first money to be received in June 2002.

Since that time the Directors of the EDC have carefully considered various propositions and have spent money including: the restructuring and maintenance of the Little League Baseball fields; various advertising for City events, such as Bertram’s 125th Anniversary and on Olde Tyme Christmas; tourism advertising; improvement to land adjacent to elementary school; and parks and pool improvements. A complete accounting of EDC monies spent can be obtained at City Hall.
